“Yes, she will want some group photos, but for the most part, she would like you to capture events as they come naturally.” This was the email message I received from Brittany’s wedding planner.
I get this request a lot and it is understandable. I don’t think couples want photography that is unnatural or forced. The photography suffers and people just aren’t themselves. This is a pity because your wedding day is YOUR WEDDING DAY. Come on! It should be all that you hope for and it starts with who is there supporting you and letting you, be you.
A few years before I was a wedding photographer, I attended a friend’s wedding in Arizona. The photographer wore black, fingerless gloves and barked orders at the wedding party all day long. It was almost like she was in pain and couldn’t enjoy her job. Needless to say several of us talked about it and her photos were not stellar. It was good for me to see though because it showed me what not to do.
Brittany and David chose to get married at a private winery estate in St Helena. The people they brought to their wedding were top tier. You’ll see in the photos below that they enjoyed their day and I bet it was all that they wanted.
